LICUAN-BAAY, Abra, Apr. 5(PIA) - In this time of the enhanced community quarantine due to the threat of the coronavirus disease, the local government unit of Licuan-Baay steps up its support to its frontliners and to the residents.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the more than a hundred frontliners who are on alert for COVID-19 threat received their share of pork as their relief food last March 31provided by the LGU thru Mayor Alejo Domingo.
The frontliners included members of the Licuan-Baay Municipal Police Station, Municipal Fire Station, Philippine Army, Citizen Armed Force Geographical Units, medical personnel and barangay officials stationed at the different areas in the 11 barangays of municipality.
Aside from the slices of pork, the LGU also distributed vegetables which were procured from farmers in the locality.
Last week, the LGU bought close to 30 pigs from local backyard raisers, butchered and distributed the meat to more than a thousand families in the municipality as part of their relief goods while on quarantine.
In Barangay Lenneng, the Molina family residing in Canada donated two pigs for the people in their barangay.
Buying pigs and vegetables from local farmers is a way to support their livelihood, and at the same time prevent them from selling their products to markets outside the town thus avoiding contact to persons who could be COVID-19 carriers.
Distribution of pork is an indigenous practice of sharing among the people, and this time this boost the health and moral of the frontliners while performing their duties and the people while staying at home as required under the ECQ.
The LGU also distributed medicines, vitamins, alcohol and facemasks to the people in each barangay thru the Municipal Health Office and the MDRRMO to protect them from the virus.
Meanwhile, the municipality of Bucloc led by Mayor Gybel Cardenas also distributed pork and rice to its constituents in four barangays to support their needs and at the same time, veer them from going to the markets in nearby Bangued town. (JDP/RMC- PIA-CAR)
