UN Secretary-General heads into Middle East conflict

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has begun a Middle East tour to push for a cessation of fighting between Israel and Hamas.
Ban has said he will step up diplomatic efforts to get both sides to adhere to a UN cease-fire resolution and allow the distribution of humanitarian aid into the devastated Palestinian territory.
Ban will first meet senior officials in Egypt and Jordan before flying to Israel, the West Bank, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Kuwait.
A visit to an Arab League summit is also on his planned itinerary.
