G8 summit will tackle food crisis
Toronto News.Net Thursday 3rd July, 2008
Next week’s G8 summit is likely to concentrate on world food prices.
Leaders are preparing to tackle soaring world food prices and intend releasing a statement at the July 7th meeting in Hokkaido, northern Japan.
It is believed the statement will call for governments to release stockpiled food reserves.
The statement will also call for long term measures to improve agricultural output in developing countries.
Soaring commodity prices have caused food riots and threatened government stability in some countries.
